the urban institute is a riga, latvia based non-governmental organization with strong connections to urban activists and movements, higher education institutions, professional planning and architectural associations and municipal and state institutions.

the institute seeks to act as a networking and lobbying umbrella organization for everybody engaged and interested in urbanism on an international level and specifically among the states of the eastern&northern baltic sea region.

the institute understands urbanism as a holistic, inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural piece of public art, accessible for everybody and targeting to create liveable communities.
